Where are municipalities in Stockholm County planning to build a significant number of new homes? Where are there \u2013 or will there be \u2013capacity issues that cannot be solved with, for instance, more vehicles or smarter traffic planning?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 This is an early-stage study based on what we know today about, for example, housing development plans and the traffic situation. We haven\u2019t yet decided whether metro or light rail is the best option, says J\u00f6rgen Altin, senior project manager at the Administration for extended metro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study is a collaboration between the two regional administrations responsible for public transportation: the Traffic Administration and the Administration for Metro Expansion. It provides a broad overview of which connections are worth further investigation and why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A long-term perspective<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the northern suburbs, for instance, many people drive to work \u2013 could expanded public transportation encourage commuters to switch? South of the city, Sk\u00f6ndal is growing \u2013 could it become a new metro terminus or a station on the way to Tyres\u00f6? If Bromma Airport becomes a new urban district, what\u2019s the best way to travel there? The Yellow Line, the Green Line, or an entirely new line? Is a metro line needed to Kungens Kurva?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 There are still many questions, and we are taking a long-term view with this work\u2014where will we live and how will we travel in 15, 30, or even 40 years? At the same time, we now have a well-established organization that can plan and build new metro lines, so I hope that some of the routes we want to investigate further will end up with us at the Administration for extended metro , says J\u00f6rgen Altin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 23, regional politicians will receive an interim report on the study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 In the next phase, we will look at proposed solutions. For these to become reality, funding will need to be secured. This is something the region cannot do alone; it will require negotiations between the state, municipalities, and the region, concludes J\u00f6rgen Altin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Areas for further investigation:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>High-capacity public transportation to a potential new district at Bromma Airport<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased public transportation capacity to and from Norra Djurg\u00e5rdsstaden<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhanced capacity for cross-city travel in the northern inner city<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased public transportation share for cross-city travel in S\u00f6derort and between Nacka and S\u00f6derort<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased public transportation share for cross-city travel between V\u00e4sterort and Solna, Sundbyberg, and Sollentuna<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved travel time and capacity along the routes of trunk bus lines 4, 5, and 6<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved travel time and capacity in public transportation between Sickla and Norra Djurg\u00e5rdsstaden<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved travel time and capacity in public transportation to Tyres\u00f6<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Capacity for public transportation to support the expansion of the Sk\u00f6ndal district<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved travel time and capacity in public transportation from Sk\u00e4rholmen, Norsborg, Alby, Kungens Kurva, and Norra Botkyrka to the inner city<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased public transportation capacity in the corridor between Botkyrka, Flemingsberg, and H\u00f6gdalen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased public transportation share for travel to Kista, Solna, and Sundbyberg from the northeastern sector<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where is more public transportation needed, and is light rail or metro the better choice?
