With these investments, the budget for the expansion increases by approximately one billion SEK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese are investments that Region Stockholm is funding entirely on their own \u2013 because they pay off in the long run,\u201d says Niklas Bergman, head of administration for the new subway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ballastless track means that the tracks are cast in place and no ballast \u2013 i.e., crushed rock \u2013 is needed. The new traffic management system is necessary for the line to be operated with self-driving trains \u2013 automatic operation \u2013 and can be used if decisions are made for further subway expansions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Region Stockholm will see a return on their investment within 10\u201320 years, due to reduced operating costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Tuesday\u2019s decision, the implementation phase for depot, vehicles, and traffic management system for the Yellow Line begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the decision by the traffic committee, the regional council will also make a decision to include this in the region\u2019s 2026 budget.
